4.0 out of 5 stars they have their flaws, but they work, August 11, 2010
This review is from: Climbup Insect Interceptor Bed Bug Trap, 4ct
ok these are not perfect, but they do work .. and I do recommend them. I had bed bugs and covered my mattress and box spring with the special covers. I also used these cups .. and waited. And waited. Finally after almost a month, I saw my first bed bug trapped in the outer ring, which means they are coming up from the floor rather than down from the bed. I was glad to finally see a bug after checking every night for weeks, but bummed that the truth is I have bed bugs in my carpet.

However .. .after a month, two of my cups broke. They cracked right where the legs of my bed make contact with the plastic, but only on my side of the bed. Now I weigh 125 lbs and my husband weighs 210 lbs .. and I'm not sure why they broke on my side and not on his ... so keep in mind that they're not perfect.

However, they do work. and they did provide valuable information about where the bugs are coming from. Just know that you should check them often for signs of compromise... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Passive and temporary intervention against bed bugs, April 4, 2011
This review is from: Climbup Insect Interceptor Bed Bug Trap, 4ct
I moved to a new apartment that was apparently infested. We were bitten within days of moving. Also, they left their "signatures" all around our mattress encasement, black feces dotted the sides and undersides of our encasement and blood stains on our sheet. After complaining to the landlord, the infestation was confirmed by the bedbug sniffing dog hired by them. It is the law in NYC that once an infestation was discovered the landlord must proactively act to eradicate the infestation regardless who brought them in but a lot of landlords and tenants preferred to keep it quiet and treat each apartment individually. In other words, they are in constant denial in order to avoid the high cost of eradication (around $1700 in NYC) until the whole building is totally infested. The bedbugs can do without a blood meal for a month and will start feeding once someone moved into the apartment. Once they have regular blood meal, they will start breeding and in a short period of time, the... Read more

you can create the same product at home by using two plastic cups - one smaller than the other. Stick on some medical tape on the outside of the bigger cup so that it provides traction for bed bugs to climb, and put some talcum powder on the inside of both cups so that the bed bugs cant escape once they fall in. You could even use the lids of take-out plastic bowls.
