The vinyl doesn't breathe so even with a sheet over it crinks and has an uncomfortable hard feeling to it. And it makes me sweat and stick to the sheet because there is no breathing of the material beneath the bedsheet. Body heat can only go one way - up back on to you. I bought the 3 gauge and it tore up pretty badly when I removed the mattress from the bed after a few months, and before that the top tore a little bit from tossing and turning in the night. I was not happy with this purchase at all. It is smooth and soft, acts like a bed sheet in terms of comfort, but also doubles as a cleanable, waterproof protector. That is important if the someone you are taking care of has incontinence. No bottom sheet to have to constantly change, several times per day. You just simply use a good deodorizing spray cleaner, with a few paper towels, and it is as good as new again. Top sheets and blankets are not usually a problem since gravity makes everything flow down.I have read stories of people who are infuriated with a parent that they have to change the sheets for, and immediately afterwards, they need to change them again.
