I wanted something to completely cover the XL Twin mattress, provide a barrier against allergens and "critters" and give a sanitary base for a memory foam topper and her own linens. "Bed Bug" mattress covers can run quite expensive, and I didn't want to spend big money on something that only needed to last a few years. At $44.99 this one is on the cheap end price-wise. It is of ok not great construction. The encasement has two layers: a polyurethane interior liner, and a poly-cotton terry exterior liner. The sides are made of stretch fabric which will allow it to fit a mattress up to 12" thick. It is crinkly sounding with a 'plastic' smell out of the packaging that careful laundering should somewhat remove prior to use. I don't see this product holding up over numerous washings, and there is a warning that if you overheat it in the dryer it will 'melt'.
